Nail Fungus and Athlete's FootA fungal nail infection occurs when a fungus attacks a toenail or the nail bed. These organisms may spread to the skin, causing Athlete’s foot. For healthy individuals, a fungal nail infection probably won't cause serious problems. But it may look unsightly, cause discomfort or damage the nail. With diabetes and other diseases, a fungal nail infection could lead to more serious problems. Not all discolored, thickened or deformed nails are fungal. We offer a simple, in-office procedure to evaluate the nail and determine if fungal organisms are present. |
